READ ACROSS AMERICA EVENT

Update on 2026 event: We had a great turn out of young and old folks to celebrate Read Across America on Saturday March 7th which ended up to be an unseasonably nice day for us!

We honored our friend and supporter, Gee Gee Rossell with donating a $100 check to the Hatteras Library in her name. The community and its visitors will greatly miss her presence at the Buxton Village Book Store.

We had our book swap and the books leftover have been distributed to our Little Libraries.

The Hatteras Library had a Pop Up Library and several people signed up for library cards.

Kids enjoyed the games and craft, and enjoyed the array of snacks and gorgeous octopus cake (in honor of our book selection.)

NEW THIS YEAR: Pop up Book club courtesy of the Hatteras Library. We read "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt. A nice discussion was had and those attending said they'd be interested in having another soon. Stay tuned!

Thanks for coming out and supporting literacy!!

2025:
Despite the nasty weather, our board, many volunteers, and the Hatteras Library enjoyed hosting Read Across America on that soggy Saturday morning in March. Wet behind the ears readers received free books that were donated to us by several folks in the Tri.

All donated books not taken were distributed throughout the village's Little Libraries.

Our librarian, Michelle, and her assistants set up a pop up library and brought books for all ages. Attendees signed up for library cards.
Games and crafts entertained the young readers, and refreshments were provided by donation from several of our members.
Many, many thanks to the book lovers who volunteered and attended...the fellowship brought light to an otherwise gloomy day!
